5th Birthday Celebrations

Max's World Knitted Birthday

Max's World Knitted BirthdayFive years ago today I opened an Etsy shop selling little earrings made from tiny balls of wool & mini knitting needles, two weeks later I sold my first pair. I couldn’t imagine then that it would be a full time job and I can hardly believe it now…! Slowly but surely I’ve expanded my jewellery range and started designing knitting patterns and I couldn’t have done it without the support of all of you.

To celebrate I have lots of lovely surprises!

Knitted balloonsFree Pattern!

I’ve designed these mini balloons so I could have a little party with my octopus and axolotl.

You can download the pattern for free here and make your own celebratory bunch!

They’re just 5cm (2″) tall.
Perfect for a mini gift!

These were one of my first products back in 2009 and they’ve always been a popular way to show your love of crafting.

Jewellery for Crocheters – At last!

Since I started making knitting themed jewellery in 2009 I’ve often been asked to make crochet versions of my earrings and brooches. For a while I was carving tiny crochet hooks, but that was so fiddly and I broke so many it made me a little crazy. Now, thanks to laser cutting, I can make mini hooks that look good and don’t take 2 weeks to make! I hope you like them as much I do, because who doesn’t love miniature crochet…??

Yarnwise Interview

Yarnwise Max AlexanderI had the great pleasure of being interviewed for Yarnwise magazine (issue 59) last month. We chatted about all things weird and wooly. They’ve kindly given me the article to share if you didn’t get a copy. You can read the full 5 page article here:

It was really interesting to talk about my various projects but I haven’t been able to read it back yet in case I said something ludicrous…!

Spooky times approaching

Pumpkin Knitting Earrings

Halloween is probably my favourite holiday of the year. I love the silly spookiness and dressing up. So I’m resurrecting my cute and spooky earrings. I’ve been embroidering scary pumpkin faces and little eyeballs onto my knitting earrings so not only can you show how much you love knitting through your jewellery but also how much you love spooky things all at the same time!

See more details in the shop, or buy a pair here and now!

Variegated Yarn Brooches

Variegated Yarn Brooches

I made these brooches for a craft fair a little while ago and I’ve got a few left so I thought I’d offer them up here.

There are only a couple of each colour and once they’re gone, they’re gone!

They match up nicely with some of the yarns on the mini skein necklaces. So you could make a nice matching set as a gift or for yourself!

The Tiniest Stash in the World!

Back in 2007 I came across this blog post about the World’s Biggest Yarn Stash on Mochimochi Land (who funnily enough makes amazing teeny tiny knits now!) It gave me an idea about making the tiniest stash in the world which I’ve finally managed to do (sort of!). I have lots of miniature skeins of yarn now anyway! They measure just 3.5cm (1.3″) long. After making all these itty bitty skeins I decided to turn them into necklaces. They’re very cute and come in all sorts of colours. I’ve used luxury sock yarns from fabulous brands such as fyberspates, malabrigo, colinette, dream in colour and cherry tree hill. So now you can own a little piece of the world’s tiniest yarn stash. See more pictures and details in the shop or buy one right here:

BUST Craftacular

This weekend was the fantastic BUST Magazine summer craftacular. I had a stall there with Isabel Vince selling our wooly goods.

It was incredibly busy and lots of fun meeting other crafty folk. I even spotted a couple of my brooches out in the wild! There’s a great review of it up on The Guardian.

I’ve put my photos of our stall up here. And Fabric Nation managed to take a lot more than me and you can see them here.
